Spend Spring Break at the Will Rogers Memorial Museum

Spend afternoons at the Will Rogers Memorial Museum during spring break. Events are planned every afternoon from March 16-20 between 1 and 3 p.m. to keep kids learning and entertained during their school break. Each activity is based on some aspect of Will Rogers’ extraordinary life, ranging from his time as a cowboy to his love of aviation.

All children under 17 are admitted free during spring break thanks to a donation by Win and Kay Ingersoll. The only activity requiring registration is Friday’s Mid-Afternoon Frolic Talent Show.

On Monday, March 16, activities include traditional dyeing, weave spinners, lacemakers, quilters and a rare behind-the-scenes tour of the museum’s vault, library and the tomb of Will Rogers.

Tuesday, March 17, is Cowboy Day! Come dressed in your Western gear, learn to trick rope or how to rope a steer. Participate in activities presented by the Museum’s Hands-On Historians. Enjoy some cowboy cooking and discover more about cowboys in the American West.

On Wednesday, March 18, in honor of Will’s love of flying, it’s aviation day. A flight simulator will be available in the Will Rogers Theatre, along with an exhibit about Claremore’s own astronaut, Stuart Roosa. An Air Evac helicopter will land in the parking lot and be open for visitors to explore. American Turf Flyers and Tulsa Glue Dobbers will have their radio-controlled aircraft on display. Stick around for our annual spring break paper airplane contest. The winner will receive an autographed copy of Buckaroo Bart’s children’s book about Will Rogers, as well as a gift card for the gift shop!

Thursday, March 19, is Will Rogers Highway, Route 66 Day. Scouting America will bring its Pinewood Derby for kids to try. Enjoy a classic car show outside and a special scavenger hunt indoors. Disney/Pixar’s film “Cars” will show at 1:15 p.m. in the Will Rogers Theatre, with free popcorn.

The week will wrap up on Friday, March 20, with the Mid-Afternoon Frolic Talent Show, where kids can perform their talents on the stage of the Will Rogers Theatre and compete for prizes. To sign up for the talent show, visit willrogers.com/talentshow
