Cherokee Cowboy

Will was born in Indian Territory in November 4, 1879.

He was about a quarter Cherokee.

He came from a prosperous family and prominent Cherokee family.

While naturally curious and intelligent, he wasn't a good student; he attended six different schools from age 7 to 18.

He learned his love of cowboying from the ranch hands on his father's ranch, including roping from Cherokee freedman Dan Walker.
