Will Rogers Silent Film Classics - Volume Two
Starring Will Rogers

Jubio
Jubilo (Rogers), a spiritual-singing tramp roaming the country, chances on a ranch where he seeks out a bite to eat. Treated well by the ranch owner, Jim Hardy (Charles French), Jubilo decides to stay, take on regular work, and settle down. He befriends Hardy and helps him through some troubles. He eventually falls in love with the rancher’s daughter (Josie Sedgwick) and asks her to marry him. Rogers would reprise the character Jubilo in later films. (Goldwyn Pictures, 1919; 55 min.)

The Cake Eater
Two spinster owners of a ranch (Grace Woods and Patsy O’Byrne) become smitten with cowboy Will. They pursue him relentlessly, smothering him with romantic attention and forcing him to eat their home-baked cakes, one after another after another. His attempts at faking sickness only stir more of their felicitous care, leading to further humorously entangling moments. (Hal Roach Studios, 1924; 19 min.; titles by Will Rogers)

The Cowboy Sheik
Rogers plays a cowboy, Two-Straw Bill, who has a habit of drawing straws when faced with a problem to solve. He falls in love with a schoolmarm (Marie Mosquini) while being romantically pursued by a local cook (Helen Gilmore). As with any number of other amusing situations in which he finds himself, Two-Straw turns to straws to make a decision. (Hal Roach Studios, 1924; 21 min.; titles by Will Rogers)

Jus’ Passin’ Through
A hobo (Rogers) arrives in a small town totally off-limits to his kind. Desperate for a meal, he manages to be arrested so he can enjoy the annual Thanksgiving repast served to all inmates in the local calaboose. (Hal Roach Studios, 1923; 8 min.)
