The Gulf Headliners, sponsored by a prominent oil company, was Will Rogers’ second try at a weekly radio series. Eventually ranked among the medium’s most popular programs, Gulf Headliners would prove more successful than his earlier radio shows because the Gulf broadcasts were usually produced before a live audience, affording Rogers the instant feedback he favored and on which he thrived. Volume one of Radio Broadcasts of Will Rogers features his first Gulf broadcast (Presidents’ Day), which aired in April 1933, and four shows from 1935.
