January Movies

Will Rogers Memorial Museum

One of the best seats in the house is the Will Rogers Memorial Mini-Theater where Will’s movies show continuously during open hours 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 365 days a year.

Will Rogers starred in 21 20th Century Fox movies, was the hero in 50 silent films and was the top box office star of his time. Many of his movies have reference to his Rogers County and Cherokee heritage.

“So This is London” will be showing January 5th and again on the 25th. Part of the script is based on Will’s experiences in obtaining a passport without a birth certificate. Hiram Draper, like Will, was born in Indian Territory and had his American citizenship questioned.

A rich Texas cotton farmer, Hiram detests anything British, but for business reasons is forced to travel to England.

He suffers the trip, but his son falls in love with British royalty.

Will manages to get Claremore, his hometown, in the movie script, as he was known to do in almost every script.

Released in 1930, Irene Rich played Mrs. Draper and Maureen O’Sullivan was cast as Elinor Worthing, who ends up married to Junior Draper played by Frank Albertson.
O’Sullivan and Albertson also played with Will in “Connecticut Yankee.”

Renew memories of Will’s movie career and spend an enjoyable time in the Museum viewing the “Wilson on Will: A Retrospective of the Art of Charles Banks Wilson” and other new exhibits marking the “70 Years on the Hill.”

The Memorial and Ranch are open 365 days a year 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
