Will Rogers Museum/Ranch

VENTURA, Calif. – Motorhome, the leading national travel magazine, features Oklahoma’s Will Rogers Memorial museum of Claremore 1879 living history birthplace ranch of Will Rogers near Oologah in its August edition.
The state is headlined as one of four “summer trips,” nationwide and included a second feature on “Oklahoma’s Great Southwest.
An article by Pamela Selbert entitled: “Oklahoma’s Favorite Son” recounts her four hour experience amid the nine-gallery Will Rogers museum that she wrote “truly is worthy of a president.”
“We read excerpts from his two million words as a newspaper columnist, wandered among hundreds of photos and artifacts, watched clips from several films—some of which illustrate Rogers’ remarkable athletic ability and skilled as a roper—and listed to some his radio broadcasts,” she wrote…”absolutely mesmerizing.”
Selbert dubbed the home place Oologah ranch as “exceptional” and crisply recounted his Cherokee heritage; contributions to aviation; movies and stage feats and his family values.
Attractively designed, the article included era black and white photos and modern color snapshots including dazzling pictures of the birthplace and museum with detailed directions for travelers.
The second story, featuring seven color shot of the area bound by I-40 and I-35 to the north and east, was by Glen and Maxine Bamburg, and described “surprising and delightful discoveries.”
Duncan’s Chisholm Trail museum, Lawton’s Wichita Mountains wildlife refuge and Museum of the Great Plains, as well as Fort Sill’s historic role and tribes of Indians fills the story along with a visit to Altus’ Museum of the Western Prairie.
Anadarko’s Indian City USA, Red Rock Canyon and the numerous lakes and camping sites of “Oklahoma’s Great Southwest” also are described as places of “vast richness.”
