A World of information

Will Rogers Memorial Commission Vice Chairman Steve Turnbo (left) and Memorial Museums’ Director Steve Gragert present a resolution to Tulsa World Publisher Robert E. Lorton III expressing appreciation for the newspaper’s longstanding support of the life and legends of Will Rogers, the Claremore Memorial and the Oologah Birthplace Ranch. In addition to routine news coverage, this year the World generated a website in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Will Rogers Memorial Museum. The resolution cites the staff for a “superbly informative and entertaining multi-dimensional presentation of an American icon, an Oklahoma favorite, a Cherokee legend.” Lorton is a third-generation newsman and was named publisher in 2005. N.G. Henthorne Sr. was editor of the World when the Memorial was built in 1938. He was instrumental in the construction and served on the first Memorial Commission. He was chairman more than 20 years before his death.
