Indian Territory play coming to Will Rogers Memorial
A one-time presentation of “Adventures in Indian Territory,” the story of 1800s in Indian Territory, is being presented at Will Rogers Memorial Main Theatre. A limited number of tickets will be available for the Saturday, Aug. 28, live show, said Steve Gragert, Will Rogers Memorial director.
The two-act play starts with ‘Amazing Graces,” the story of Trail of Tears survivors. Award-winning actor and storyteller Laurette Willis portrays Carrie Bushyhead and eccentric young missionary teacher Sarah Worcester.
Tales are told of the old Female Seminary, where many young women from this area of Indian Territory attended, and of the harsh realities of life through the eyes of those who lived it.
In the second act, “Indian Territory Days,” meet Cherokee lawmen and outlaws like Zeke Proctor, Ned Christie, Belle Starr, Light Horse Captain John C. West — and even a teen-age Will Rogers.
Audience participation is encouraged to choose up sides before the posse shows.
All seating is general admission for the 7:30 p.m. presentation. Tickets are $7 and may be purchased in the Museum store 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week or by calling 918-341-8115 and charge to a credit card.
Julie Luna, Will Rogers Memorial events coordinator, said the 90-minute Cherokee Moon Production is the one showing this summer on Saturday nights at Adams Corner Village, Cherokee Heritage Center.
