Outstanding books have been named winners of the 2006 Will Rogers Medallion Awards to be presented in September. The Academy of Western Artists will honor Buck Ramsey’s Grass and From My Window and other poems, the authors and publishers.
Scott Braucher and Bette Ramsey are editors of Buck Ramsey’s Grass, published by Texas Tech University Press. Yvonne Hollenbeck is author of the book of poems, published by Pine Hill Press.
Will Rogers was a respected writer and cowboy entertainer. “The Academy hopes and believes that the AWA Will Rogers Medallion Awards will help to expand the heritage of literature which honors the traditions and values of the American Cowboy, which Will did so much to embody and demonstrate,” Academy officials said.
Awards will be presented during the 2006 Classic Country and Western Music Broadcaster’s Convention in the Eisemann Theatre Sept. 25-27 in Texas.
The AWA Will Rogers Medallion Awards are separate from the Buck Ramsey Cowboy Poetry Book of the year, presented at the AWA W ill Rogers Award Show. (These books area still in contention from that award.)
The 11th Annual Academy of Western Artists Will Rogers Award Show will be Sept. 26 at the Eisemann Center for Performing Arts.
