Will Rogers’ Kin at statue unveiling
Members of the Tom Milam family of Oklahoma City were among state and Oklahoma City leaders at the unveiling of a Will Rogers statue at the Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City. Tom Milam is the grandson of Sallie Rogers McSpadden and son of Maude Irene McSpadden and William Walker Milam. Several of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren attended the ceremony unveiling the Harold Holden statue.

“Will Rogers is larger than life – to portray him less would be an injustice,” said artist Harold Holden of Kremlin when he unveiled this statue at the W ill Rogers Airport in Oklahoma. The work depicts Rogers performing a rope trick on his horse, Teddy, The 11-foot 2,500 pound statue is the centerpiece of the airport’s extensive renovations. Holden, known as “H,” has created western themes in sculpture and on canvas more than 30 years. For research on this work, he found actual bits and saddles used by Will Rogers with the help of Michelle Lefebvre-Carter of W ill Rogers Museum in Claremore.
