OKLAHOMA—Will Rogers-Wiley Post Fly-In, Sunday, August 16, 2,000-foot grass strip adjacent to Oologah ranch home where Will Rogers was born in 1879. He died in a plane crash Aug. 15, 1935.
OOLOGAH-Pilots will cruise the skies Sunday, August 16, and drop down on the Will Rogers Ranch to remember the death of Will Rogers and Wiley Post and their dedication to the aviation industry. They will land on a 2,000 foot grass strip adjacent to the Oologah ranch home where Will Rogers was born Nov. 4, 1879.
The annual Will Rogers-Wiley Post Fly-In is a commemoration of the date the two died in an Alaskan plane crash on Aug. 15, 1935. Pilots from four states gather to showcase their planes and reminisce with fellow flyers.
Pilots start landing as early as 7:30 a.m. A short program at 9 a.m. recognizes pilots and friends and family of Will Rogers. Spectators are invited to get a close-up view of the planes.
Food concessions will be available along with events and games for children.
