73rd Anniversary of Will Rogers Death

Family and friends of Will Rogers gathered Aug. 15 in the Will Rogers Memorial Museum to pay tribute on the anniversary of his death on that day in 1935. Lt. Gov. Jari Askins (second from left) was joined in placing a wreath at the Rogers’ statue in the Museum rotunda by Donna McSpadden (from left), Doris “Coke” Meyer and Jeanne McSpadden. Coke is the last surviving great-niece of Will Rogers. The McSpaddens are widows of Clem and Bob, Rogers’ great-nephews. The McSpadden brothers died within the past two months. Lt.Gov. Askins stopped to visit Andy Hogan, Memorial historical guide and Will Rogers interpreter, and sign the museum guest book. Lt.Gov. Askins and Mrs. McSpadden and State Sen. Sean Burrage (left) and Rep. Tad Jones greeted members of the Claremore High School Senior Naval Science squad, presenters of the colors.
