Wiley Post liked having Will Rogers as a passenger — and Will was always eager to fly with his one-eyed friend. This rocking airplane will be given to some lucky child Sunday, Aug. 12 at the Will Rogers-Wiley Post Fly-In at the Will Rogers birthplace ranch near Oologah. Children 12 and under are eligible and must be present to win. They can sign up at Reasor’s Supermarket in Claremore and then come to the fly-in and view the real planes landing on a grass strip adjacent to the house where Will was born. The admission-free fly-in is a tribute to Will and Wiley, killed Aug. 15, 1935, in an Alaskan plane crash. Pilots showcase their planes and visit fellow pilots, many who have been coming to the Fly-In since it started more than a dozen years ago. They enjoy showing their planes to children who attend the event. It is also an opportunity for children and others to pet the ranch animals and visit the house where Will was born. Brandon (Will) and Matthew (Wiley), sons of Tandy and Dakie Reeder of Claremore, try out the plane, which is on display at Reasor’s in Claremore. The real planes start landing early with a program scheduled to start at 9 a.m. Concessions will be available. (For information call 918-341-0719.)
