Planes will land on a 2,000 foot grass strip adjacent to Will Rogers’ birthplace Sunday, Aug. 12, marking the anniversary of the death of Will and pilot Wiley Post in an Aug. 15, 1935 Alaskan plane crash. For more than a dozen years, pilots from a four-state area have been coming to the ranch to showcase vintage and new aircraft, helicopters, experimental and homemade planes. Planes start landing about 9 a.m. for a day of fun and fellowship and exchanging banter about their planes — and remembering Will and Wiley, aviation’s biggest boosters of their time. Family members will join in the tribute. Concessions will be available. The ranch is about nine miles north of Claremore on Highway 88, then north on NS411 to EW380 road and east to the birthplace or two miles north of Highway 88 and 169 junction and east on EW380. The airport identifier is OK 37. A wreath-laying ceremony will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15 at the Will Rogers Museum in Claremore, where Will Rogers and members of his family are interred. All events are free and open to the public. The Museum and birthplace ranch are open to the public 365 days a year from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (For information call 918-341-0719)
